Has corrective vision surgery or Lasik always been on your list of things you want to do, but you haven't gotten around to it?
This is your sign, it is time for clearer vision, time to ditch the glasses, shorten your routine and change the way you are seeing the world.
I recently had the opportunity to watch my friend have LASIK (laser vision correction) and go from legally blind without glasses to her saying she can now see better than ever before, even with glasses! #LifeChanging
Let me walk you through the process of LASIK with Dr. Ramsey at Huntsville Laser Center.
They are located off the parkway, and near the soon-to-be-open Edgar’s Bakery that is close enough to enjoy before/after your appointments for breakfast, lunch, snacks or coffee.
First, my friend had a free screening. They did some tests and measurements to figure out if she was eligible for LASIK (she was!) and talked about options, risks and benefits. My friend and I were really impressed that all of the staff was extremely knowledgable on the procedure and happy to answer all of our questions (sometimes more than once :D ).
Once my friend was approved for LASIK, she was set up with a surgery evaluation appointment that included a dilated eye exam with Dr. Ramsey. They told her not to wear her contacts for a week or so before the appointment in order to get the best results. We were impressed by the sincerity and professionalism of Dr. Ramsey and his staff. From the tech, to the receptionist, to the financial counselor they all were very helpful throughout the process and eased any nerves that were there. After that appointment, we were ready for the procedure!
On the day of the procedure, they told my friend not to wear eye makeup, make sure she had eaten before coming, and wear comfortable clothes. It’s probably a good idea to wear a zip up sweater or something that’s easy to take off if you’re warm without having to pull over your head. They told us my friend would need someone to take her home afterwards (me, of course) and that she should take a nap after.
On Friday, the day of the procedure, we were both pretty nervous. They gave my friend medicine to help her relax (none for me) and it was smooth sailing from there. The procedure itself took just a few minutes and Dr. Ramsey came to see her in the exam room a little while after. My friend said her eyes felt fine and that she could already see clearer than she ever had without glasses before. Dr. Ramsey said some patients feel irritation for a few hours after the procedure that goes away the next day.
We went back to see Dr. Ramsey the next morning and my friend was already 20/15, that’s even better than 20/20! No more glasses or contacts! We love that Dr. Ramsey sees his Lasik follow up patients on Saturdays! Who does that?! Less time to take off of work with this convenient coveted weekend appointment.
It is now one month out and my friend says this is one of the best health decisions she has ever made and has had a huge impact on her daily life. No more reaching for glasses in the middle of the night, no more taking out contacts before bed, no more concern about packing enough contact solution for a trip. She’s so happy!
If you or your friend have thought about LASIK, go for it! There’s no risk in going to the free screening exam to find our if you’re a good candidate. The only thing you’ll regret is not having LASIK sooner!
